Matching bracelets....it's how we roll!

Waking up

Popsicle time, while watching an interview with Lady Gaga, yes, that is what she wanted to watch!

Getting ready to head out, with a warm blanket. In a pretty sweet wheelchair!

Sporting her scrubs we got her in the gift shop. You would have never known she had surgery today!

And now for the whole story~
A few months ago Aviry woke up with her ear packed with dried blood. Took her to the Dr. and it was very hard to see much except blood and infection. So they put her on an oral antibiotic and ear drops. 2 weeks later brought her back for a check and it was doing good, still lot's of blood but they expected it to drain itself out. After 3 months of the blood NOT draining on it's own I decided to take her to her ENT. They sent us home with drops that they assured us will not hurt like the Murine had. Sure enough they were just as painful! So, that meant there was a hole that was making the drops go straight to the inner ear, which can be very painful and not good for the inner ear. So the decision was made that her ear tubes needed to come out and the hole needed to be patched. Which meant putting her under sedation. They told us we could do it at a Surgical Center or at Primary Children's. My first thought was I want her at Primary. Scott felt the same way. And we are so glad we chose to go there, we had a great experience just like we did when she got her tubes in 4 years ago.
Aviry & I went to a pre surgery class at Primary, SO WORTH IT!!! A nurse talked through everything with the parents and a Child Life Specialist was with the kids, showing them EVERYTHING that they would see and experience. There was a great video taking them step by step of everything. They got to play with all the instruments, practice taking deep breath's through the breathing mask and picking out which flavor they want to smell in the mask. Aviry felt much more at ease after the class. But she still was worried about saying goodbye when it was time to go to the O.R.
Day of Surgery~We are all nervous and scared. Aviry get's emotional and keeps saying she doesn't want to go. Luckily when we got there everything went really fast. We were checked in and Aviry was called back all in about 15 min. They did the inital exam and gave her hospital jammies and all our bracelets. Then it was off to the play room where Aviry was given the choice to take some "Brave" medicine to help her not be scared to be seperated from us. She said she wanted it. It was Vercet (sp?) She got very drowsy and was seriously acting drunk. She was slurring her words and kept trying to get off my lap, but had no balance. Then it was time to get her in the wagon for the ride to the O.R. Daddy got to pull her until we arrived at the doors. That walk down the hall my stomach was up in my throat, trying not to start crying. Once we arrived at the doors I gave her our special kisses, which is a kiss on the lips, eskimo and then I kiss her cute nose and her forehead. told her I loved her with my broken voice and had to let her go. I cried the whole way back to the waiting room, and Scott was so amazing and did a great job comforting me. We went down to the gift shop and bought her some pink scrubs, and when we got back to the waiting room the Dr. came in and said everything went perfect. They removed the tubes and patched the hole. So now was the wait of being able to go back and see her. The nurses assured us Aviry was doing just fine, she was just still sleeping and until she wakes up we can't go back. FINALLY she woke up and we went back and I don't think I will ever forget turning that corner and seeing my baby looking at me with a smile. I was finally able to have her back in my arms. She did great and we were able to go home after about 45 min. All of the staff was amazing and treated Aviry and us so great!!!
Aviry was back to her crazy self about 2 hours later. Scott and I feel so grateful to have a healthy family. We never take for granted how lucky we are to have healthy children. Being up at Primary really puts it right in your face not to take anything for granted and we feel so fortunate to have a healthy family.
